Inappropriate Bradycardia

What Is It?

An abnormally slow heart rate.

Additional Information

Bradycardia is a slow heart beat which can be a normal response to deep relaxation or being in excellent physical shape! As well as occurring in the elderly, Bradycardia can also be caused by abnormalities of the hearts own electrical properties, a side-effect associated with taking certain medications such as beta blockers and digoxin or due to other causes such as low thyroid levels or heart conditions present at birth. Typical symptoms of Bradycardia include fainting and light-headedness.

Treatment Options

Bradycardia may not be a serious heart condition and may be treated by discontinuing any medications that slow down the heart beat. It is important that you do not discontinue or reduce any medication without first consulting your GP. In some cases a pacemaker may be implanted.
